MUSD School Police Department

  1. Serve on the Core Management Team in planning, management, and implementation; policy making; and coordination of services and resources.
  2. Work with SS/HS partners in the delivery of law enforcement-related prevention activities.
  3. Continue to develop relationships and task force with neighboring police departments, such as Bell Gardens Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and the Montebello Police Department, to share information and resources to prevent, resolve, and address issues of safety and security.
  4. Oversee provision of school police officers, including selection, training, placement, and management, according to best known policies and practices.
  5. Under the SS/HS program, increase the size of the school police department by one school police officer and one truancy officer.
  6. Work closely with the Deputy Probation Officers, case manager, and LA County Department of Probation on prevention and support services to students who are in or have been involved with the juvenile court system.
  7. Supervise the Gang/Crew Intervention training provided by the Campus Security Officers.
  8. Create and manage the District Emergency Operations Center.
  9. Train all MUSD personnel on all security camera systems – including written policies and procedures regarding monitoring and investigations.
  10. Assume responsibility for ensuring that all calls coming in on the anonymous tip-line are immediately addressed by school police and administration.
  11. Create standard operating procedures and roles and responsibilities for the truancy officer – to include community and school-based truancy sweeps; utilizing the truancy center as an alternative to criminal prosecution; and providing educational seminars for students, staff, and parents on truancy and the law.
  12. Oversee all emergency preparedness and response activities.
  13. Coordinate and implement the Every 15 Minutes and The Drug Store programs.
  14. Oversee and participate in all bullying prevention programs. Provide education to staff, students, and parents through workshops, assemblies, and conferences.
  15. Modify data collection and reporting systems to ensure appropriateness and utility of the system for tracking and evaluating the effectiveness of school police officers and safety initiatives.
  16. Provide data and information necessary for the evaluation of service delivery to the local evaluator and provide data related to the Government Performance and Results Act Performance Indicators established by the federal government.
